For starters, the stringers are the main framing component of a staircase and hold the treads and risers. Most people call the part of the staircase that you walk on the steps, but in staircase terms, they\u2019re called treads or run. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vertical part of the stairs in between each tread is called the riser and it supports and connects successive treads. Modern architecture often incorporates staircases without risers to achieve an open-air, minimalistic look.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rise is the vertical height between two consecutive treads. The landing is the horizontal platform between two successive flights of a staircase and facilitates the change of direction of the flight. The nosing is the part of the tread that projects beyond the face of the riser and its length is equal to the width of the stair.
